Do I need a barcode and how do I get one if I do?If you sell your CDs or DVDs to a distributor or reseller who uses barcode scanning as a means of tracking inventory and sales, then you will need a barcode. If you will be selling your product directly to the end user or places who do not scan then a barcode isn't necessary. All barcodes in the U.S. originate from the GS1-US. They exclusively control the assignment of numbers.
There are several companies in the United States that are issuing single UPC numbers.
These companies offer original unique numbers assignedÊand owned solely by you. Unlike many of the supposedly "free" bar code issuers, all of these companies guarantee the numbers to be unique and authentic. There is no danger of cross-over, duplication, or expiration of your barcodes. You will own your UPC barcode. It can be registered in your name, and it becomes your company's asset. Barcodes can usually be obtained in as little as an hour. If you need any help placing your barcode into your files, C&C Music & Video is always there to help you. |
